Dr de Winter originally trained as a nurse and specialised in urology, She joined the then Institute of Urology and Nephrology at University College London. She undertook a part-time M.Sc. in physiology graduating with a distinction, this prompted her follow on her studies with Ph.D. Dr de Winter has had positions with the British Heart Foundation Junior Research Fellowship at King’s College London, and has taught undergraduates and postgraduates at Birkbeck, University of London, in a broad range of topics ranging from physiology to molecular biology.
